Data Protection statement

The United Kingdom has improved Data Protection Law giving you increased rights over how your data is managed by Elmbridge Borough Council. 

These increased rights also apply to information provided to any Landlord with whom Elmbridge Council share your Data in order to progress your application.  There is more information about this in the application form.

You have the right to know what we will do with your data. Elmbridge Council will keep the information that you have provided for 7 years from the date of their last contact with you.

Under data protection law you have the following rights:

  • You have the right to ask the Search Moves Partner that you apply to i.e. Elmbridge Borough Council for copies of the personal information which they hold about you. 
  • You have the right to have your personal data rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • You have the right to request the deletion of personal data if there is no compelling reason for the Search Moves Partner or Landlord to continue having the information
  • You have the right to object to and to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances. Data will be used to assess your housing needs and will be processed on the basis of consent and the requirement to assist with housing needs
  • You have the right to obtain and reuse your personal data for your own purposes (known as data portability).
  • You have rights in relation to automated decision making. As a small part of the housing assessment process, in some cases for banding or disqualification we make use of automated decision making. You have the right to discuss any automated decisions made with a member of staff at the Partner’s office.
  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office about the processing of your personal data – please visit ICO
