What is a Key Worker?

Key Workers are those who work in certain public sector jobs such as teachers, police, NHS staff, firefighters etc. who may be eligible for discounted rented accommodation. The rents are approximately 80% of market rent values. If you work in the public sector and are looking for accommodation please check with the landlord that you meet any locally set definition of a key worker.

If you are a Key Worker looking for affordable rented accommodation you may contact the following who  may be able to assist you, but you need to be aware there are a limited number of properties in Elmbridge and further afield which are reserved for key workers.  Those properties are not let through Search Moves.

A2Dominion key worker housing in Elmbridge

A2Dominion is a housing association with a number of apartments for rent for key workers in The Heart in Walton on Thames. These properties are not let through the Council’s Housing Register. A2D will carry out affordability checks to satisfy itself that any prospective tenant will be able to afford the accommodation. These properties are not let through Search Moves.

PA Housing key worker housing in Elmbridge

PA Housing own and manage a number of key worker homes in Elmbridge in addition to social housing property. The keyworker homes are let on assured shorthold tenancies and at rents at no more than 80% of market rents. These properties are not let through Search Moves. Walton Charity – homes to rent for key workers / essential workers.

Walton Charity has a small number of new-build homes for rent for essential workers. This accommodation may be advertised through Search Moves on behalf of Walton Charity, but it is the charity decides who to offer the property to.

Market rent / intermediate rent

PA Housing has a small number of homes designated for market rent or intermediate rent (i.e., at up to 80% of market rent) in Elmbridge. These are usually advertised through OpenRent, and you do not have to be on Elmbridge Borough Councils Housing Register. These homes are not advertised through Search Moves.
